Ashoka University is a collective philanthropy institution founded by some of India’s most eminent business leaders with a vision to set up one of India’s finest universities in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Vineet Gupta, with a group of like minded friends, has been actively involved in its foundation right from 2007.
Ashoka University is a pioneer in its focus on multidisciplinary education and research at par with the best in the world. It is named after Emperor Ashoka (c. 304 – 232 BC) who represents India’s highest values and ideals.
Drawing from Emperor Ashoka’s life of learning and transformation, Ashoka University provides a holistic education that is liberal, multidisciplinary, and interdisciplinary, offering a diverse and inclusive space for its students to think deeply and critically, learn across disciplinary boundaries, express themselves creatively, and communicate with meaning to cause impact and change.

Vineet Gupta has been significantly involved in the education sector as a visionary and institution builder for the past few decades. Being the Founder and Trustee of universities like Ashoka and Plaksha, he has been recognized by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce during the 13th Indo-US Economic Summit Award Ceremony for ‘Excellence in Promoting Education’ on a global level. Vineet Gupta also received the Edupreneur of the Year Award (2021–22) from APAC at their 2nd Education and Skill Conclave for his venture into entrepreneurship and contributions to the country’s higher education system.
Vineet Gupta, pioneer of Ashoka University with other like-minded individuals saw its swift growth to prominence in the field of liberal arts and sciences after being launched in 2014. Within its establishment and operation in less than 10 years, Ashoka University was named ‘University of the Year’ and honoured for ‘Excellence in Internationalization.’ at the 4th Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Higher Education Excellence Awards 2017. The award recognizes the accomplishments and outstanding effort done by institutions and people to raise the standard of higher education in India and to drive the sector towards raising the bar on excellence.
Vineet Gupta believes that nation building can be achieved through education and beyond, and to ensure that the quality of education is unhindered, more universities like Ashoka and Plaksha is needed to herald a higher education revolution. The honours and accolades received over the years have only served to propel entrepreneur and educationist Vineet Gupta and the prestigious institutions he founded towards new milestones and successes.
